Surf Splendor Podcast

Hey 1 Hour in HB fans, Over the past few years producing 1 Hour in HB I've really developed a passion for storytelling. The most gratifying episodes to create were those that profiled people, like the Joe D. Foster series. I've parlayed this interest into a new project called Surf Splendor. It is focused specifically on conversations and stories about surfing. It's an audio poscast and available for free on iTunes and at SurfSplendorPodcast.com .

Our first episode was with Chris Cote discussing the fallout of Transworld Surf, Twitter trolls, and much more.

The second episode just launched today and features a discussion with surfboard shaper Eric Arakawa.

I hope that you listen. If you enjoy show please share it with a friend and follow on INSTAGRAM, TWITTER, and FACEBOOK Thank you!

F1RST QUARTER

Filmed in Huntington Beach during the first quarter of 2013. In the overcast winter weeks leading up the Australian leg of the world tour, Brett Simpson tested boards and trained in the roping Northwest swells that filter through the pier.

Kanoa's Holiday @ Home

. . . and he's gone. Kanoa spent a brief month at home for the holidays and now he's off again to Hawai'i, China, Australia, blah blah, all around the world. When we see him again he'll have grown another 4 inches. So long, grommet. It was nice seeing you. Music: Amadou & Miriam Song: Sabali

Saturday Morning at the Pier

Welcome to HB. Feel free to burn anyone you'd like. Doesn't matter if someone is boosting a full rotator, go ahead and burn 'em squat stance to get a closer view.

Quiksilver Surf Camp - Latin American Team

I was really psyched to be a part of the crew participating in a surf camp for the Latin American Quiksilver team. Here's my video documenting the week.

Noe Mar Visits California

Last week I met a blond-haired man-child named Noe Mar McGonagle. He's 16, but looks 20. He's Costa Rican, but looks Californian. He surfs good and I'm sure we'll see much more of him in the future.

Simpo's Scene

The Tour is on break, so Brett Simpson is home ripping the pier everyday in his superhero wetsuit.

Oh yeah, and Hurley team manager Brandon Guilmette gets a couple too.

The Quik Kids

Who wants to surf when it's cold, windy, and crappy? The groms do! The shocker is, they surf those conditions better than you surf A+ conditions at your local spot.

1 Morning with Brett Simpson

Simpo's back from Tahiti and amping for Lowers. All the groms, tourists, and locals were giddy when they noticed and quick to congratulate him on his US Open win. Brett graciously and humbly thanked each of them and shredded his way through the line up.

Jesse Guglielmana!

This grom was visiting from Kauai with Tyler Newton. He was busting airs left and right, so after I missed the first few, I began recording.

This is what we got in the course of 3 days.

Too Much South

The direction is too south, and everywhere from Seal Beach to Laguna is walled. The wedge had size, but it wasn't really working. Oh, yeah, and not to mention all the wind that was howling from dust til dawn.

Alas, we perservered, and surfed a not-so-secret spot.

3 Waves Each - Hopkins and Waring

The pier was a zoo once again, but amidst the chaos, Billy and Chris were able to get a couple rad ones.

A Quik Session

Quiksilver is doing their summertime coffee and donuts thing on Southside every Wednesday. The waves were small but all the groms came down and ripped a few right into the sand.

Beach Party 2010!

It's definately summer in HB. NSSA comp was on Southside so all the locals were crammed in on Norside. I saw more collisions today than I've seen in the past 6 months. Nevertheless, the crew got a few keepers. Ted seemed to pick off the best ones and shred them all the way through. Micah was back in the water for the 2nd time in a month. And junior lifeguards were all through the lineup blocking air sections on every wave.

I'm already looking forward to winter again.

This hazy footage is killing me. Sorry that it all looks black and white.

Ryan was shredding Southside. Ted was shedding Norside. Brett's back in town for a short while before J-Bay so he joined Ted to rip the rights into the pier.

Should be good the next few days so check back for more!
