Strictly Business with Micah Byrne

Some guys are free-surfers, some are competitive surfers. Micah is an "80% Pro Surfer", raising a family, running the team at DC, and whenever a contest comes to town, he dons a jersey and slays a few "100% Pro Surfers." This was his journey at the 2011 Vans Pier Classic.

On Sunday morning 1 Hour in HB caught Micah's monthly surf session.

Summer in February

It was crowded with SUP's, boogy's, longboard's, multiple water photogs, groms everywhere, International pros, and it's 80 degrees and sunny! Plus, it was 2 feet and inconsistent. Feels like summer, except the water is 58 degrees and there are no girls on the beach.

You know who rules these days? People with energy, aka the under-20-year-olds.

Spend 1 Hour in HB

We had a 2 day break from terrible weather and rain. This was day 2. This is a typical 2-3 ft NW swell, rights running away from the pier with Simpo, Navarro, Micah, and Peters running them down.

Pacific Ocean - Open for Business!

The waves have been flat for 3 solid weeks. We finally got a little pulse, with more on the way. A lot of the boys are in Hawaii, but those who aren't were eager to greet the swell at the pier. More to come!

Bengal Beach

Saenz showed up with a Japanese camera crew. Peters put on a marathon sesh with 1 million backside hacks. Micah and Ward did work. And Ted shredded 'em all. Just another morning at the pier, but this time it's Hindi-style.

Bros vs. Pros round 2! The Bros are gaining on em. Can we get some sponsors backing these kids? The waves are junk and the these guys are launching airs and flicks like it's nothing. Keep it up boys.

Beach Party 2010!

It's definately summer in HB. NSSA comp was on Southside so all the locals were crammed in on Norside. I saw more collisions today than I've seen in the past 6 months. Nevertheless, the crew got a few keepers. Ted seemed to pick off the best ones and shred them all the way through. Micah was back in the water for the 2nd time in a month. And junior lifeguards were all through the lineup blocking air sections on every wave.

I'm already looking forward to winter again.

Surf School - with Micah Byrne, Ted Navarro, Derek Peters, and Jesse Evans

This morning's surf was dismal. However it was perfect conditions for beginner surf lessons. There was about 30 lessons going on and hundreds of Jr. lifeguards running around.

Ted paddled out on his bullet and did about a million swoops. Derek did his backside ninja slices and Micah went goofy. All in all, where else would you rather spend the morning?

Running Sandbar

The weather cleared and while the waves were still small, the sandbar started working for about an hour before the wind turned on. Of course 400 people were on it, but the boys still got a few and of course Carlson stomped some massive airs. Just another day south of the pier.

Southside This Morning

The waves looked terrible early on, but when the tide backed off slightly everything started to stand up a bit. Teddy was getting disco. Derek was getting retro. It was overhead for Kanoa. And Micah put on a cutback clinic. Just another day south of the pier.
