Kanoa's Holiday @ Home

. . . and he's gone. Kanoa spent a brief month at home for the holidays and now he's off again to Hawai'i, China, Australia, blah blah, all around the world. When we see him again he'll have grown another 4 inches. So long, grommet. It was nice seeing you. Music: Amadou & Miriam Song: Sabali

Quiksilver Surf Camp - Latin American Team

I was really psyched to be a part of the crew participating in a surf camp for the Latin American Quiksilver team. Here's my video documenting the week.

Lowers Underated

Yeah, we all know Medina, Julian, and Simpo rule Lowers. Their clips go viral while everyone else just quietly shreds in anonymity. Well this one is for the underated ripper, for Laura and Lakey, for Caio, Fisher, Lucasik, Brendon, and Stu. It was just last year that I uploaded a video of a very little known Gabriel Medina (www.vimeo.com/23482301). Next year, one of these young bucks could own a gold trestle spike of his own.

All the Quik kids converged on 54th street to get a few tubes and spin a couple little airs.

14 year old, Kanoa Igarashi

Kanoa's ruled the contest scene for the past 8 years. He's traveled the world a few times over. And he's only 14.

Get to know your local super grom, Kanoa Igarashi!

Derek and Kanoa Surf Creek

Here's a Quik session at Creek with Derek Peters and Kanoa Igarashi.

A wee bit of wind and NW swell, add a couple flyaways and kook dodges and call it a days work for team Quiksilver.

Another Hour on Southside

Before Simpo heads to OZ for the new season, he shredded the tail end of this swell with Ted Navarro, Kanoa Igarashi, Derek Peters, and Brandon Guilmette. Here's just another hour south of the pier.

The Quik Kids

Who wants to surf when it's cold, windy, and crappy? The groms do! The shocker is, they surf those conditions better than you surf A+ conditions at your local spot.

Quiksilver King of the Groms

The King of the Groms takes place at various key spots around the world. The winners get a trip to France to compete in the Championships against one another during the Quiksilver Pro WT event.

I shot and made this for Quiksilver on Monday.

Pottz Training Session

Martin Potter rolled through Orange County to give the groms some WT level advice before they head down to Peru for the ISA's. Mar Ohno came by to lend his QS experience.

Some Groms

When the waves are small and slow, the groms rip the hardest. However, no matter the conditions, these groms always rip the hardest.

Salad Days

One of my favorite sections of all time was an 18-year-old Chris Ward's in Voluptuous. This is the song they used and this is my homage. Featuring . . .

Summer in February

It was crowded with SUP's, boogy's, longboard's, multiple water photogs, groms everywhere, International pros, and it's 80 degrees and sunny! Plus, it was 2 feet and inconsistent. Feels like summer, except the water is 58 degrees and there are no girls on the beach.

You know who rules these days? People with energy, aka the under-20-year-olds.

Upper Trestles - the HB groms invade!

While we should have been at work or school, the Quiksilver team fled the swamped high-tide of the HB pier and bummed out all the locals at Upper Trestles by clogging the line-up.

P.S. Kanoa went on to win two divisions in this past weekend's amateur contest at Uppers. Ripping!

Huntington Beach 6.0 - Simpo and Flores

Nike 6.0 has taken over Huntington Beach. Hopefully the waves will follow. As for now, it's 2 ft mush. This morning Brett Simpson avoided the crowd by surfing Northside while Jeremy Flores slogged through the denizens on Southside.

A Quik Session

Quiksilver is doing their summertime coffee and donuts thing on Southside every Wednesday. The waves were small but all the groms came down and ripped a few right into the sand.
