Kanoa's Holiday @ Home
. . . and he's gone. Kanoa spent a brief month at home for the holidays and now he's off again to Hawai'i, China, Australia, blah blah, all around the world. When we see him again he'll have grown another 4 inches. So long, grommet. It was nice seeing you.

Welcome to HB. Feel free to burn anyone you'd like. Doesn't matter if someone is boosting a full rotator, go ahead and burn 'em squat stance to get a closer view.

Quiksilver Surf Camp - Latin American Team
I was really psyched to be a part of the crew participating in a surf camp for the Latin American Quiksilver team.
Here's my video documenting the week.

Noe Mar Visits California
Last week I met a blond-haired man-child named Noe Mar McGonagle. He's 16, but looks 20. He's Costa Rican, but looks Californian. He surfs good and I'm sure we'll see much more of him in the future.

Gabriel Medina - the warm up sessions
Gabe surfed every single morning for 2 hours before the US Open. He'd freesurf midday, and then he'd wax his 30 minute heat. He, undoubtedly, has natural ability but he also has a tremendous work ethic. Ironically, he attributed his stamina to diet of "a lot of milk and tortilla". As Gabe develops more competitive savvy and perhaps a level of fitness akin to Slater or Fanning, he'll likely find a new gear. Gabe will not only raise the talent level of professional surfing, but also the dedication level. Bravo, Gabriel! Can't wait.

OMG Dane! - the warm up sessions
Dane gets mobbed on Southside, but surfs in anonymity just 100 yards north. He weaves though the crowds, lifeguards, and bikini's en route to a Quarterfinal finish for the 2nd year in a row.

South Africa is pretty far removed from the surf industry. Brendon has proven his surf prowess, so now he's taking the time to immerse himself in the Orange County scene. Here's what he had to say about his experience.

Lowers Underated
Yeah, we all know Medina, Julian, and Simpo rule Lowers. Their clips go viral while everyone else just quietly shreds in anonymity. Well this one is for the underated ripper, for Laura and Lakey, for Caio, Fisher, Lucasik, Brendon, and Stu.
It was just last year that I uploaded a video of a very little known Gabriel Medina (www.vimeo.com/23482301). Next year, one of these young bucks could own a gold trestle spike of his own.

Tubular, Dude!
Who says the waves suck in HB?
They don't, but even during this last run of swell, there was a lot of work for very few payoffs. The boys make it look super fun, usual.
This was shot on the morning of January 6th, 2012.
